Summer had arrived. The apricots in Grandma’s garden were ripe. Aman and Leyla took two baskets to the garden in the morning. The yellow fruit shone in the sunlight.

Grandma showed the children a ripe apricot. “Hold the soft fruit gently,” she said. She picked fruit from a low branch. The children put the clean apricots that had fallen to the ground into the baskets.

Leyla held up a small apricot and asked, “Shall we take this one too?” “Of course. Small fruit can be sweet too,” Grandma replied. They washed the apricots and put them on a plate.

Grandma split some apricots in half and removed the stones. She arranged them on a clean tray. “We will dry these and eat them in winter,” she said. Aman remembered the taste of dried apricots.

Then the children took a basket of apricots to their elderly neighbor. She thanked them. On the way home, Leyla said, “Apricots are sweet, but sharing makes them sweeter!” Aman smiled and nodded.
