On a rainy afternoon, Zohra left school and went to the library. The streets were wet, but the inside of the library was warm and quiet.
The librarian told her that there were old books on the back shelf. 'These books carry traces of several generations,' she said.
Zohra picked up a dusty book and opened it slowly. On the first page there was a map of the old city and handwritten notes.
She could not understand some of the words, so she wrote them in her notebook. She planned to ask her teacher about them the next day.
Inside the book was a story about an ancient caravan, a spring, and a child who lost the road. Zohra read the story aloud.
Her friend Maryam came and sat beside her. Together they looked at the map and found how the old streets connected to today's streets.
After a week, Zohra and Maryam prepared a small display at school. They explained the new meaning of old words with pictures and sentences.
The children who saw the display wanted to visit the library. That day Zohra felt that old books were a bridge between the past and the future.
